On Quebec's 400th anniversary it's founder, Samuel de Champlain, it turns out, was much more the man than previously made out to be. An intrepid explorer, politician, leader, and all 'round renaissance man he was single handedly responsible for much of the settling of the New World. Oddly, there are no known records of what he looked like. Every known reproduction was either a fake, or different explorers/noblemen mistakenly taken as Champlain.
